Oh Lord, You're Beautiful
I had a thought tonight as I was reading another blog, and it came to me how easy it is to fall away from God. It is always a subtle thing, but when it happens, it always takes me by surprise. I never expected to have the rug pulled out from underneath my feet like I've had it happen several times before as of late.
I think one of the most difficult things about this culture is that no one is commited to a common goal. I feel like no matter what, I'm working against the grain, without help from other believers who have the same commitment in mind for Christ.
I remember reading Keith Green's biography and seeing how passionate he was for Christ, how on fire his spirit was for saving the world for Christ. I wanted that, and I want it now, but it seems that the kind of movement that he was part of has since passed, and in this post-modern world of you-look-out-for-yourself-and-I'll-look-after-myself thinking, it's easy to feel alone, and to lose that passion for Christ.
Maybe Keith Green just said it better than anyone else, or he was just more in touch with the Holy Spirit or something at that time, but I think he more than anybody brings me back to my original passion and love for Christ. I've decided to post one of his songs, one of my favorite songs of all time. I hope it encourages you and lights a fire within your heart for our Lord.
Oh Lord, you're beautiful
Your face is all I seek
And when your eyes are on this child
Your love abounds to me
Oh Lord, my body's tired
But you keep reminding me
Of many holy tireless men
Who spilled their blood for thee
I want to take your word and shine it all around
But first help me just to live it Lord
And if I'm doing well help me to never make a sound
Except to give you all the glory
Oh Lord, my faith is small
And I need a touch from you
Your Book of Books
Lies undisturbed
And the prayers from me too few
Oh Lord, please light the fire
That once burned bright and clear
Replace the lamp of my first love
That's fueled with holy fuel
Oh Lord, you're beautiful
Your face is all I seek
And when your eyes are on this child
Your love abounds to me.
